We need enthusiastic and creative individuals to be part of our home education programme with our son who has ASD and sensory processing difficulties.
We run a friendly home education programme for our 10 year-old son. He is on the autism spectrum, but is verbal and enjoys others people’s company and attends a local mainstream primary school for some inclusionary lessons. The programme is run at our home in West London. We teach our son a range of academic-based subjects, together with promoting self-independence and community-focused outings.
There will be an initial trial period at £7 per hour. Subject to both parties satisfied, pay will be increased to £10 an hour.
We currently require someone to work 3-4 sessions per week (Monday to Fridays). Each session will last about 3 hours and will be a mixture of am and pm hours. Morning sessions: 9.00-12.30; afternoon sessions: 2.30-5.30.
A minimum of 6 months’ experience of working with children with autism is essential. In addition experience of working with children with sensory processing difficulties would be desired. We welcome people from varied schools of teaching techniques e.g. ABA, VB, Son-Rise. A knowledge of p-scales would be advantageous but not essential. There will also be the opportunity to take our son into school, therefore LSA experience would be desirable but it not essential.
We would like applicants to be able to show a long-term commitment to our son’s programme ideally over 12 to 18 months. We are looking for someone who enjoys playing, is non-judgemental and patient. A good command of the English language is a must. This post may interest people in the early stages of considering a career in SEN education, Speech & Language Therapy or Occupational Therapy.
