After the Interview:
At this point, you have already done the ‘hard part’ and faced all the interviewers’ difficult questions. You are now probably sat wondering “Did I get the job?” Although the interview may be over, there are steps you can take to ensure you come across professionally and remain fresh in the interviewers mind.
Letter or Email
You can use this letter/email to firstly thank your interviewer(s) for their time & hospitality. You may also wish to use it to further demonstrate why you think you have the skills & attributes required for the job. However you should also ensure you do not go into too much detail as you will have already covered this ground in the interview.
At the interview, you may have been told you would be contacted with a decision on a certain date. If this is the case, try not to contact the company (excluding the thank you letter/email) before the specified date. This may be seen by some employers as ‘buggy’ and score you minus points.
When you do find out the decision, hopefully it will be to confirm that you have got the job. If this is the case, well done! You should then send a thank you follow up letter or email to confirm you wish to accept the position and how much you are looking forward to working for the company.
On the other side of the coin, you may have been unsuccessful. If this is the case, you should still send a letter or email. In this letter or email you can thank your interviewer(s) for their time and also use it as a chance to ask for feedback. You can use this feedback to improve your performance in your next interview by addressing the things you did wrong.
